Jeweller Skills required

We’re always looking for new skills - individuals who are absolutely at the top of their profession and can add significant qualities to the team. As a guide, we look for the following

Cleaning and Polishing

Ring sizing (up and down)

Half shanking rings (ladies & gents)

Repairing hinges

Flat engraving

Stone setting

Channel setting & re-building ring channels

Bezel setting

Re-tipping/re-building claws and re-setting any replacement stones in claws

Chain repairing and findings

Fashion focused and perfectly in tune with our customer, the Signet buying team seeks out the brands and products that will entice people through our doors and on to our websites. But sourcing must-have brands and spotting trending styles is only part of the story - our buyers are commercially savvy negotiators too. They agree the best rates with our suppliers and then work closely with our merchandising teams to ensure stock of our products is delivered and available within our business at the right time. Entry into our Buying department is typically as a Buyer’s Administrator with potential progression into Assistant Buyer and Buyer roles in the longer term.

With new ranges arriving in stores every season, our highly skilled team of Merchandisers are busy making sure our products are in the right place at the right time. Combining creativity with astute commercial flair, they ensure the variety and mix of products we sell and how they are displayed entices customers to make a purchase. This enables us to achieve the figures and calculations driving a product range. Usual entry into our Merchandising team would be as an Allocator with a clear path available to progress as an Assistant Merchandiser and eventually a Merchandiser managing your own product based team.

Signet’s Buying & Merchandising Academy (the Academy) is our in-house development programme designed to ensure each and every one of our Buying & Merchandising team can perform at their very best and work towards meeting their career goals.

Created specifically for the unique demands of first-class jewellery retail, the Academy is structured, practical, relevant and rewarding.

Focused on developing technical knowledge, personal effectiveness, commercial acumen and management capability, there’s a clear framework which ensures that for every role there are appropriate development goals.

You’re in control – when you think you’re ready you request a sign off meeting with your manager to discuss your development and capability. This means you develop and progress at your own pace using on-the-job training, workshops, tests and quizzes. You’re not expected to demonstrate what brilliant management potential you have on day one, but there’s every opportunity and encouragement to do so once you reach the appropriate level.

And, as we take development seriously, for every stage that’s signed off, there are associated pay rises to reward the increased contribution you make. When the opportunity arises, if you’ve completed the relevant development levels you can apply for the next step on the career ladder. So it’s not just a piece of paper or a tick box exercise. It’s an essential and genuinely rewarding part of your career at Signet.

"One of the best things about working in the Merchandising and Buying teams is the in-house training Academy and workbook training plan. As soon as you enter you get a clear pathway of your next job, the next promotion level and how you are going to get there - and your manager will support you throughout"
